Mantua sweeps Dogzz in double header at Shea
The Mantua OB/GYN’s took two games from then-league leading Davis County Monday night behind the big bat of Miguel Tejada. A goat through the team’s first four games, he hit three key home runs tonight against the Dogzz. In game 1, the Doctors were down 4-2 in the bottom of the 8th when Tejada hit his second solo shot of the night, then Mantua manufactured two more runs to take a 5-4 lead going into the final inning. Jesse Crain pitched the 9th for his second save, preserving Wade Miller’s win in relief. Miller went 5.2 innings, allowing only one hit off the red-hot Dogzz bats. In game two, the teams see-sawed back and forth, and were deadlocked at 3 runs apiece in the bottom of the 7th when Tejada hit a grad slam deep into left field. Erasmo Ramirez pitched 2 innings of relief ball for the win, despite trying to make things interesting in the 9th by allowing back to back solo homers to Aubrey Huff and Mark Kotsay. Huff’s homer was his 2nd of the ballgame. After those theatrics, manager Ted Karren called on his stopper, Jesse Crain, to stop the bleeding and get the last couple outs for the 8-5 win. The two OB/GYN wins mean a first ever league deadlock at .500. Nearly to the 1/3 mark of the season, everybody is still in the hunt.
