Aaron Harang Makes History

August 24, 2008 By: Brian Category: Statistics No Comments →

On April 26, 2022, aging Harang made history by tying the record for fewest batters faced in a complete game. He allowed 1 hit, but retired the other 27, and faced only 28 hitters.

Statcenter Debuts, Fails

July 31, 2008 By: Brian Category: Statistics 1 Comment →

Ok, so a few months ago I hinted at developing something really cool on this site.  Part of that is done.  With the help of some friends I’m announcing Statcenter.

Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out how I’d hoped.  And while it displays information, it’s not very easy to use, the formats are wrong, and the data isn’t very flexible.  There are about a million things that need to change.  It’s the second version of my initial attempt a few years ago during the Davis league when I developed this.  I don’t necessarily think it is a step up.

So, that being said, I’ll update Statcenter with 2021 stats and that can be used until I finish a better version.  I think the one thing that PTP is missing more than anything else is a flexible statistics program where we can see everything we want including teams, players, managers, all in one place.  The Almanac is great, and has a purpose, but if I had the question, “which 3rd basemen had the most RBIs in a single season”, it would take me some time.  It should be much easier to find, say, my career record against Jerry or something like that.  All the data is available, it’s just not in a format that is easily retrievable.  I want to change that because I don’t think PTP is going away soon and this would definitely create a richer experience.

So, with Statcenter you can select hitters or pitchers, then either selected years or all years, and hit “Generate Report”.  You will get a list of players from that query.  From there, you can click on the number to the left of the player to see their career numbers, by year.  That is pretty much it.

So, with the announcement of Statcenter v2.0 I’m announcing the impending death of Statcenter v2.0 and the eventual birth of Statcenter v3.0.

One Month and Zero Posts Later, Hairys Remain Champions

That’s right, ladies, it’s true. The Hairys, as improbable as it seems, woke up this morning to find that they are still PTP champions. How long it takes for another team to man up and take the title from them remains to be seen, but if recent playptp.com activity is any indicator, the rest of the managers are content to remain curled in the fetal position whimpering for their mothers. And oh yes, I DID just say that.

ps. Manager Ockey urges ptp fans everywhere to check out Comissioner Utley’s recent blog post on his long and storied history with books. As you all know, Utley has a singular gift for writing - he manages to effortlessly and simply convey his thoughts and instill inspiration without even trying. I read that thing and I was scrambling for the nearest book just so I could start to try and be like Bri. Thank you Bri. Thank you Ted. For that 2021 Championship that you gave me.
Love,
Jerry

Consecutive Scoreless Inning Streaks - Pitching

Jerry breaks the record by almost a full game, with playoffs on the line.  Certainly one of the best stories to come out of this league.

Look Closer

April 01, 2008 By: Brian Category: Statistics 2 Comments →

And the final stat of the day. The combined statistics of the six closers that I have on my staff:

142.1 IP
75 Hits
20 ER
30 BB
131 K’s
522 Batters Faced

Giving them:

1.27 ERA
0.74 WHIP
.143 Opponents Batting Average

Thank you, Jenks, Saito, Papelbon, Putz, Isringhausen, and Accardo. Well done so far.

My six closers have faced 522 of 1214 total batters this year. This means that I’ve had a closer in the game 43% of the time. In other words, if you bring a batter up to the plate against me, there’s a 43% chance you will be facing one of the six sickest relief pitchers in all of baseball.

Championship League Winning Streaks

March 01, 2008 By: Brian Category: Statistics 2 Comments →

Winning streaks of 8 or more, sorted by margin of victory per game.

Active streaks are, of course, in bold.

On another note:

Last year the NY Yankees set a Major League record by using at least 5 pitchers in 10 consecutive games.  For that stat, I have a streak of 5 games, and 10 out of 12 games total.  The Yankee record is in jeopardy methinks.

Who knows the only record in real baseball that one of our Championship League players  has already broken?
